SEO for Interior Designers

With the rising popularity of house interiors, the demand and competition for interior designers is also rising. Building a good portfolio will only help you to get a few initial clients. To attract your ideal clients on a regular basis, you need an online presence as a trustable interior designer.

This is where SEO comes into play. SEO is a powerful tool that can boost your website’s visibility and drive highly interested people for your interior design business.

Understanding SEO Basics:

Many interior designers don’t pay as much attention to SEO as facebook and Google ads, because ads generate quick results. But, SEO is more important for your interior design business if you are thinking long term.

SEO is a process of optimizing your website pages to rank them higher in search results. When someone searches for an interior designer in “your city” you want your website to show at the top of the search results and that’s why you do SEO for it.

The Purpose of SEO:

But, why does SEO matter for interior designers?

Suppose you’ve just completed a kitchen renovation project, and you want to show your work to clients.

You upload your designs to your website.

But there’s a problem, no one knows about your website so noone is able to see your projects.

This is where SEO can help you.

Here is a road map to SEO for Interior Designers:

Choosing the Right Keywords to Target in your Website:

Keywords are the base while creating your SEO plan. These are the words that your clients are searching on Google when looking for interior design services near them.

We will learn more about keyword optimization in the next sections of this article.

For now think about what your clients might be searching for when they are looking for an interior designer in your area. What terms are they likely to use when searching for an interior designer?

Try including city specific keywords, such as “interior designer in [your city],” to attract local clients.

Long-tail keywords – longer, more specific phrases – can help you rank faster as the competition for ranking on them is less.

Tools for Keyword Research:

Luckily, you don’t need to guess which keywords your customers are using. There are many tools available to help you with your keyword research.

Google Search can be very helpful for a start – simply start typing a keyword related to your business, and Google will provide suggestions based on popular search queries.

Here are some more tools you can explore

  1. Google keyword planner (Free and best tool for keyword research)
  2. Semrush
  3. Ahrefs
  4. Optimizing Website Elements

Additionally, platforms like Pinterest and Google Trends can offer valuable insights into trending topics and search trends within the interior design niche.

Your website is your digital business, just like a physical office. You need to optimize it to attract customers.

Here’s a guide to optimizing your website for better rankings on Google Search Results:

  1. Homepage Headlines:
    • Clear Headlines: Your headline is the first thing visitors see when they come to your homepage. Make sure it clearly shows what you do and which services you offer. Add relevant keywords in the headline if possible.
  • Keep it Concise: Aim for a headline that is both informative and concise. Avoid unnecessary fluff words that may confuse visitors.
  • Test Different Variations: Experiment with different headline variations to see which one goes best with your visitors. Use A/B testing to compare performance of the both headlines and decide from the data.
  1. Headers are important for SEO:
  • Header tags, such as H1, H2, and H3, are important while organizing your website’s content to signal the important parts of your website.
  • Use your important keywords in the header tags to signal what your page is about. For one of our clients, we changed the H1 tag for the homepage from his brand’s name to NYC kitchen design services and he saw improved rankings in a few days.
  • When organizing your headers, think of it like writing an outline for your content. Start with your main heading (H1), then divide them into subheadings, and further use H3 tags if needed. This approach not only helps SEO but also makes your content more reader-friendly.”
  • Avoid Stuffing Keywords: It is important to add keywords in your headings, but try to avoid overloading them. Keep your headers simple and easy to read for your visitors.
  1. Optimize the images:
  • Optimize file names: Before uploading images, we always prefer renaming them with relevant keywords. For example, ‘IMG_1234.jpg’ can be renamed as ‘modern-kitchen-design.jpg.’
  • Write descriptive alt text: Alt text is less important but it’s still useful. We generally describe the image in detail, like ‘A modern kitchen with white marble and steel racks,’ making sure it includes relevant keywords.
  • Compress Images: This is very important if you want to improve your website’s speed on mobile phones as well as desktops. Large images can slow down your website’s loading speed, this can negatively impact your SEO. Keep the image sizes between 30 – 100 kbs.
  1. Content Strategy:

Your website’s content is more than just words on a page – it’s your chance to show your expertise, establish trust with your readers, and ultimately, attract more clients.

Here’s how you can create a content strategy that will hook your audience and get you the desired SEO efforts:

Blogging on your website:

Why Blogging is Important: Blogging is a powerful way to educate your audience so that they can look back at your website whenever they’re looking for your services. Google loves websites that frequently update their content, and publish blogs consistently.

Solve Questions and Concerns of your Customers: Use your blog to clear up the questions and concerns that your customers have. By presenting helpful sources, you position your website as a trustworthy source in your field.

Add Keywords Naturally in your Blogs: Yes, it is important to include keywords in your blog posts, but don’t stuff unnecessary keywords just for the sake of rankings. Create helpful content that obviously has relevant keywords put in such a manner that improves the reader’s engagement.

Let them Read and Share your Content: Find methods to increase participation in your blog posts.  You can do it by adding call to action buttons (CTAs), feedback forms, social share buttons, email newsletters. The more people interact with your blog, the better clicks and CTR your blog gets.

Creating Helpful Content:

Know Your Customers: Before creating any article, take time to understand your customers – their pain points and what they want. Tailor your content to answer their specific questions in a most friendly way.

Provide Value: Your blogs have to provide true help for your target customer. It may be informational articles, design guidelines, your research and experience, tips and tricks, whatever that helps them. While doing this make sure that your articles are relevant and engaging for your readers.

Use Visuals: While articles are important, don’t underestimate the power of visuals. Add high-quality images, videos, infographics to improve the look and feel of your content and make it more likable.

Be Consistent: Consistency is very crucial when you begin running a blog. Create a content calendar and keep following weekly or bi-weekly posting timetable so that your readers can regularly see your content.

Links between two pages can be called as Backlinks.

Links help Google crawlers to crawl from one website to another. This also helps in passing the authority from one website another.

If a high authority website like Forbes or Mashable links your website in one of your pages or blogs it increases your website’s authority in the eyes of Google.

Those pages can be the internal pages of the website or the pages of some external website.

For a certain website xyz.com if the links are built internally within the website, they are called as internal links and the links, if built on the external website are called external backlinks.

Both internal and external backlinks are important for SEO and boosting your website rankings.

While internal links can be built inside your own website they are easy to create but are often overlooked.

External links are very hard to build as they are taken from external websites. You can reach out to bloggers, journalists, news and magazine websites to link your page to their relevant pages.

You can offer them a free article, in exchange for a link to your website.

While some websites offer links in exchange for a free written article for their websites, many good websites charge between $50 to $300 for a guest article or a link insertion on their website.

URL Structure

Optimized URLs play an important part while doing SEO of any page or a blog. Here are the do’s and don’t you can follow to optimize the url structure of your website pages.

Firstly, URL is something like this https://yourwebsite.com/xyz

Keep the URLs Short and Remove Stop Words: keep the urls as shortest as possible. You can exclude filler stop words (e.g., “and,” “the,” “of”) from your URLs to shorten them and make them more search engine-friendly.

For example – You can write “/seo-company-in-mumbai” as “/seo-company-mumbai”

Use Keywords in URLs:

Use your primary keyword in the URL. Keep in mind you can change the content of your page or blog at any time but you cannot change your URL’, so create them strategically. Avoid generic or vague URLs that don’t offer much insight into what users can expect.
